VGP – A 49-year-old Vietnamese woman working as a housekeeper in Beirut, the capital city of Lebanon, was hurt due to the massive explosion on August 4.

August 05, 2020 4:38 PM GMT+7

Vietnamese Ambassador to Egypt Tran Thanh Cong announced the information when he was asked about citizen protection work in Lebanon.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt directly contacted the Consulate of Viet Nam in Beirut, Lebanon, requiring the information about Vietnamese citizens’ situations and was informed that the Vietnamese citizen’s arm was broken as luggage fell down in the house she worked in after the explosion happened.

The Vietnamese citizen is being treated at Clemenceau Beirut Hospital.

At present, some 50 Vietnamese people are living in Lebanon, working as housekeepers and restaurant staff with disadvantaged economic situations due to the crisis in Lebanon and complex developments of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Embassy will continue joining hands with Lebanon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate of Viet Nam in Beirut to undertake citizen protection measures if necessary.

A massive explosion ripped through central Beirut on Tuesday, killing dozens of people, injuring thousands and blowing out windows in buildings across the city.

More than 50 people were killed and 3,000 injured in the explosion.
