ADB finances clean water supply and rural sanitation in Central region

VGP – A US $50-million project, under which the Asian Development Bank (ADB) provides a loan of US $45 million, will ensure the supply of clean water and sanitation for 350,000 residents in six coastal provinces of Central Việt Nam.

Leaders of the State Bank of Việt Nam (SBV) and ADB on Tuesday signed a loan agreement worth of US $45 million for the project.

Six beneficiary provinces include Thanh Hóa, Nghệ An, Hà Tĩnh, Quảng Bình, Quảng Nam and Bình Định, where the poverty rates are higher than the country’s average.

The ADB’s loan will be valid for 32 years, including eight years of grace.

The remaining US $5 million will be mobilized by the Government of Việt Nam and the beneficiary provinces.

At the signing ceremony, ADB Country Direcotr Ayumi Konishi stated that his bank and other international financial organizations highly valued the Vietnamese Government’s efforts for socio-economic development, especially in disadvantaged rural areas.
