State Bank of Việt Nam (SBV) Governor Nguyễn Văn Giàu and Country Director, Chief Representative of the Asia Development Bank (ADB) in Việt Nam Ayumi Konishi inked today the loan agreements for the Projects “Medical assistance to the southern coast of Central Việt Nam” and “Developing tertiary education in Việt Nam.”

Accordingly, ADB pledged to offer US $72 million for the medical project and the Vietnamese Government will allocate a corresponding capital of US $8 million.

The project aims at upgrading medical systems in eight coastal provinces in southern Central Việt Nam, so as to improve quality of health services and raise local people’s access to these services.

Through this five-year project, 26 district and provincial-level clinics will be built and upgrade; and 31 others equipped properly. The project will last until 2013.

ADB will also give a non-refundable aid of US $1 million from the Special Fund of the Japanese Government to the tertiary education project.

With this project, Việt Nam can take loans to build two international universities in Hà Nội and Đà Nẵng.

The project, which is implemented for the next two years, focuses on analyzing real situation and demand of universities as well as socio-economic demand for the proposal of loans.

On the occasion, SBV Governor Nguyễn Văn Giàu confirmed that the Vietnamese Government highly appreciates valuable assistance from ADB and the Japanese Government to realize priorities in Việt Nam’s Development Strategy to 2020.
