ADB sponsors US$ 1.3 million for a vocational training project

VGP – The Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed with the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs a nonrefundable US $1.3 million project on vocational training for the poor and ethnic minorities in Sóc Trăng and Trà Vinh provinces.

October 13, 2008 9:16 AM GMT+7

The project is aimed at creating more employment opportunities for the poor and the minority groups and help them set up small businesses to improve their livelihood.

The project will be piloted for three years (2008-2010) in the districts of Vĩnh Châu, Mỹ Xuyên (Sóc Trăng) and Trà Cú, Cầu Kè (Trà Vinh).

Through the project, 4,000 people, 50% of them come from ethnic minorities and 50% are women, will be provided with vocational training courses. After graduation, 70% of trainees will be hired and given with loans to start production.

The project is sponsored by the Japanese Government through the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction established in 2000 to support the poor and improve laborers’ capacity in order to gradually narrow the gap between the rich and the poor in Việt Nam’s urban and rural areas.
