Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung chairs an online multi-sectoral brainstorming discussion on the ASEAN Community vision post-2025, Ha Noi, July 20, 2020.

Building ASEAN Community vision in the post-2025 is one of the main priorities of Viet Nam as the Chair of ASEAN 2020, aiming to orient the development process of ASEAN after completing the realization of ASEAN Community vision 2025.

Participants at the event were ASEAN senior officials from specialized agencies on the pillars of Political-Security, Economic and Socio-Cultural Communities, and ASEAN Vice Secretary Generals.

Delegates at the discussion spoke highly of proposal of Viet Nam on the meaning and importance of establishing orientations for the development of ASEAN in the time to come, asserting to closely coordinate with Viet Nam in the process.

Speaking at the event, Dung highlighted Viet Nam’s initiative on orientations to building ASEAN Community Vision following 2025, saying that it is a continuation of Thailand’s efforts during its tenure as the ASEAN Chair 2019, including working closely with the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) to outline the ASEAN Vision 2040.

Delegates shared the view that the post-2025 ASEAN Community Vision should be inclusive and closely links with cooperation contents in the three pillars, with a focus on digital transformation and economic development, inclusive development, rapid and effective response to emerging challenges, people-oriented and people-centred approaches, and improvement of ASEAN’s central role and international stature, among others.

They suggested improving the efficiency of ASEAN apparatus, inter-sectoral and inter-pillar coordination, and enhancing the participation of all sectors in Community building.

Amid complex development in the region and the world, Dung suggested ASEAN uphold its central role to promote dialogue process and build trust for the regional peace, security and stability in line with actively and effectively responding to challenges and making practical contributions to the international community’s efforts to ensure peace and development.

ASEAN needs to guarantee inclusive approach and balanced and sustainable development between regions and areas within countries, heading to ensuring no one be left behind, he stressed.

As scheduled, Viet Nam will hold more consultation conferences to collect feedback on the effort to submit to the 37th ASEAN Summit in November 2020.
