The Meeting is resulted from Vietnam’s initiative on " ASEM cooperation in applying IT to development of human resources and capacity building" approved by leaders of the ASEM members at the ASEM Summit held in October 2004 in Hanoi. The Meeting was attended by ministerial-level delegations from the ASEM members, representatives of the embassies in Hanoi and big IT enterprises from the ASEM economies.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs Phạm Gia Khiêm stressed that the Vietnamese Government has considered ICT as one of the most important drives to development. The successful IT application will help to accelerate Vietnam’s renewal process, strengthen corporate competitiveness, support the country’s proactive integration into the international economy and ensure the success of national industrialization and modernization.
