Action month against child abuse launched
VGP – Minister of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung called for early disclosure of child abuse cases, quick response, and tough punishment to better protect children.
Dung made the call at the launching ceremony of the action month for children on June 1 in Ha Noi.
During the action month, a string of activities will be held nationwide in order to change awareness and promote responsibilities of the entire society on children protection.
Earlier, the deputies attending the ongoing ninth session of the 14th National Assembly spent a day (on May 27) to discuss policies and regulations on child abuse protection as the hot topic has drawn much public concerns.
From January 1, 2015 to June 30 last year, 8,442 child abuse cases were disclosed in which 8,709 children were mistreated. Noticeably, sexual harassment accounted for 75.4% of child abuse cases.
In addition, there are other problems of child labor, abandoned children, and child marriage.
Addressing the event, Minister Dung affirmed that the State, people, and parents always attach importance to child protection. However, there remains a lack of cooperation among offices, units, and organizations.
Hence, during the action month for children, the Minister called upon all agencies, the community, and society to link hands to take care of children.
Ms. Rana Flower, UNICEF Representative in Viet Nam recommended the country raise explanatory responsibilities of all sectors including education, health, public security and other organizations. The representative suggested agencies and offices work closer to prevent and resolve abuse cases against children./.
