VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has agreed to supplement over VND 1.5 trillion (US$ 75 million) from the national budget for COVID-19 prevention and control to the Ministry of National Defense.

The new funding aims to support the ministry to accomplish its tasks, including running quarantine camps and special allowance during the pandemic time.

Viet Nam spent VND 21.5 trillion (US$ 0.93 billion) from its budget for pandemic prevention and control from early 2020 to late June 2021, the Ministry of Finance said on July 16.

During the pandemic time, both central and local budgets have given priority to disease prevention and subsidies for vulnerable people to cope with the pandemic effects.

The above figure includes VND 4.65 trillion spent in the first half of 2021, the ministry added.

Among the total, VND 8.4 trillion was for procurement of vaccines, medical facilities, financial support for quarantined people and frontline workers.

In addition, the Government provided two packages worth VND 13.1 trillion (US$ 568.6 million) in supporting people affected by the pandemic in accordance with Resolution 42/NQ-CP, dated April 9, 2020 and Resolution 154, dated October 19, 2020.

In the first six months this year, total budget revenue hits VND 781 trillion, accounting for 58.2% of the forecast, representing 16.3% of year-on-year increase, which is quite positive despite the fact that Viet Nam has been hit hard by COVID-19./.
