Aquatic Exports Fetch Over US$1 Bln In First Two Months

VGP – Viet Nam’s aquatic export value rose by 2.2% to over US$1 billion in the first two months this year.

Shrimp and tra fish remained the major export products, with export volume reaching US$380 million and US$214 million, respectively.

Aquatic exports are expected to reach US$640 million in March, up 1.5% from the same period last year, according to the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Last December, Viet Nam shipped first batch of frozen shrimp to the EU after the Viet Nam-EU free trade agreement came into effect.

The seafood was produced by Thong Thuan Company and the shipment left the factory in the south-central province of Ninh Thuan on September 11.

Under the trade agreement, the EU eliminates tariffs on 86.5% of Vietnamese seafood over the next three years with a zero tax rate expected after seven years, creating a great opportunity for the export of Vietnamese seafood.

Aquatic product exports are projected to rake in US$9.4 billion this year, a surge from US$8.5 billion in 2020, driven by a strong rebound in demand of export markets and the support of free trade agreements./.
