Army convenes 10th Party congress

VGP - The Viet Nam People’s Army convened its 10th Party congress for the 2015-2020 tenure in Ha Noi on September 22.

 The congress saw the presence of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, also Secretary of the Central Military Commission; former General Secretaries Le Kha Phieu and Nong Duc Manh; State President Truong Tan Sang; former State Presidents Le Duc Anh and Tran Duc Luong; Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; former National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An; among other high-ranking officials.

Addressing the opening ceremony, General Phung Quang Thanh, Minister of Defence, reviewed the Central Military Commission's performance in the past five years, saying that the Commission has regularly attached importance to realizing the Party’s policies and the State’s laws.

The Central Military Commission, the Ministry of Defence and their branches overcame difficulties and took effective measures to fulfil targets set during the previous congress, General Thanh said.

The leadership and fighting capacity of Party organizations at all levels in the Army have also seen positive changes, he added.

The congress is significant in the Army’s development, helping improve the Commission's capacity and strengthen the army. Its outcomes is important to the success of the 12th Party Congress, which is scheduled to take place at the beginning of next year.

In the morning session, delegates listened to General Secretary Trong’s speech and a political report by the Central Military Commission./.
