At nuclear summit, PM Dũng meets with foreign leaders

VGP - PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng on April 12 (local time) in Washington DC met with Japanese PM Yukio Hatoyama, New Zealand PM John Key, Morocco PM Abbas El Fassi and EC President Herman Van Rompuy.

Deepening and broadening the Vietnamese-Japanese strategic partnership

PM Dũng and his Japanese counterpart Hatoyama agreed that the two sides should broaden and deepen the strategic partnership in line with aspirations and interests of the two peoples.

The leader of Việt Nam highly appreciated the Japanese substantial assistance for Việt Nam’s national construction and development, and proposed the Japanese Government increase ODA for Việt Nam and help the country implement big infrastructure projects.

PM Hatoyama confirmed that Japan will continue to actively cooperate with and provide high volumes of ODA for Việt Nam to carry out projects agreed by leaders of the two countries, including the North-South express rail route, the trans-Việt Nam express highway and the hi–tech park of Hòa Lạc in Hà Nội.

Significant progress in VN-NZ relations

Both the Vietnamese PM and his New Zealand counterpart stated that the friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries have seen many important progresses, notably the visit to New Zealand in late 2009 by Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh, which marked the start of the Việt Nam-New Zealand comprehensive partnership.

PM Dũng said the two sides should make efforts to tap new fields of cooperation and quickly implement the mechanisms for bilateral cooperation as agreed.

For his part, PM John Key asserted that New Zealand treasures the comprehensive partnership with Việt Nam and confirmed an official visit to the Southeast Asian country in the coming time.

Việt Nam and Morocco should bring potentials into play

When meeting with Moroccan PM Abbas El Fassi, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng hailed advancements in the bilateral relations since the former’s visit to Việt Nam in 2008.

He said the two countries should further tap potentials for cooperation and bring into play their respective strengths in the fields of tourism, agriculture, mining, and fertilizer production, He suggested frequent exchange of delegations of state officials and entrepreneurs to share information and experience and seek opportunities for bilateral cooperation and with other third parties in Africa.

EU treasures cooperative relations with Việt Nam

In his meeting with EC President Herman Van Rompuy, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng stressed that Việt Nam and the EU should deepen their ties and upgrade them into a model of cooperation between a developed center and a developing country.

Việt Nam welcomes the EU report on Việt Nam’s market economy, said the PM, proposing the block create more favorable conditions for better trade between the two sides.

Mr. Rompuy agreed that the two sides should build up new stable and comprehensive frameworks for the bilateral ties in the new period. He confirmed that the EU attaches great importance to fostering the relations with Việt Nam. He believed that the two sides will soon sign the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) and the Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Mr. Rompuy highly appreciated the important role of Việt Nam in ASEAN. During Việt Nam’s presidency of ASEAN in 2010, the ASEAN-EU relations will develop more strongly, he said.
