The CAAV sent a document on flight resumption to the Ministry of Transport.

The Administration also sought permission to notify the aviation authorities of the four countries to re-organize regular international passenger flights.

Earlier, on January 11, the agency sent a document to the Australian side on flight resumption.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that about 140,000 overseas Vietnamese want to return home on the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year Festival.

The country is expected to receive 30,000 passengers per week including Vietnamese citizens, overseas Vietnamese, foreign experts, and investors.

The VAAV has already exchanged with aviation authorities of the RoK, Japan, Chinese Taipei, and Singapore about increasing flight frequencies to 14 on each route in each direction.

The Government approved the resumption of regular commercial flights between Viet Nam and international destinations which are highly safe from COVID-19 since January 1, 2022 namely San Francisco or Los Angeles (the U.S.), Singapore, Bangkok (Thailand), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Vientiane (Laos), Beijing/Guangzhou (China), Tokyo (Japan), Seoul (the RoK), and Taipei (Taiwan).

However, as of November 1, only seven regular international flights between Viet Nam and other countries and territories had been available for bookings.

The Health Ministry scraped the seven-day mandatory quarantine and allowed fully vaccinated passengers to self-isolate on arrival.

Viet Nam grounded international flights in March 2020, for a long time allowing in only its nationals, foreign experts, investors, and highly-skilled workers coming by special flights.
