Bali Forum – Good chance for VN to share viewpoints and experience of promoting democracy

VGP - Participants to the Bali Democracy Forum from 32 Asian countries agreed Thursday to strengthen democratic systems in Asia by holding annual meetings at the ministerial level.

Justice Minister Hà Hùng Cường

The forum, initiated by Indonesia, aims at creating an open inter-governmental mechanism under which Asian countries can share experience, boost regional cooperation in democracy on the basis of constructive dialogue, equality, mutual respect and understanding, and non-interference in internal affairs.

Under the theme “Building and consolidating democracy: A strategic agenda for Asia”, the forum covers discussions on building democratic institutions, free elections, different meanings of democracy, and the role of mass organizations in democratic societies.

Speaking at the forum, Vietnamese Minister of Justice Hà Hùng Cường praised Indonesia for initiating and hosting the forum, considering the event a good chance for Asian countries to speed up democracy and enhance their cooperation in this area.

The Minister asserted the Vietnamese State’s consistent policy to build a State of people, by people and for people.

Beside improving economic conditions and ensuring social equality, Việt Nam has always prioritized the building and consolidating of democracy in order to advance to a powerful country of wealthy people and equal, democratic and advanced society, said Minister Cường.

He confirmed that, through facilitating and promoting the development of democracy, different countries can strengthen their mutual trust and equal cooperation.

In a world of globalization and interdependence, building and consolidating democracy must be considered a common task which requires all countries to join hand to fulfill, the Vietnamese Justice Minister emphasized.
