Dam highlighted the point at the Cabinet meeting on Monday, which was attended by Party General Secretary, State President Nguyen Phu Trong.

Specifically, Viet Nam was placed 67th out of 141 countries in the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report, up 10 places compared to the previous year, Dam said.

He, however, said Viet Nam must go faster as the rankings of some of the indicators like starting a business and paying tax still remain low, standing beyond 100th places.

Viet Nam also jumped three ranks on the 2019 Global Innovation Index (GII) to place 42nd out of 129 economies around the world.

With this jump, Viet Nam has leapt 17 spots since 2016. This year’s result is also the highest ranking Viet Nam has ever achieved.

In terms of tourism, the Southeast Asian country jumped to 63rd among 140 countries and territories in the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) 2019, up four places compared to 2017 and 12 places against 2015.

Official statistics show continuous annually growth of inbound tourism, reaching new record high of 18 million this year.

On logistics, Viet Nam’s position on the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) in 2018 has risen 25 places compared to two years ago, to 39th among 160 surveyed countries, according to the World Bank.

This is the highest ranking since 2007 when the World Bank first started compiling the ranking.

Among lower-middle income countries, large economies such as India and Indonesia, as well as emerging economies such as Viet Nam and Côte d’Ivoire, stood out as top performers.

For cybersecurity index, Viet Nam recorded impressive improvements, standing 50th on the Global Cybersecurity Index (CGI) rankings in 2018, up 50 places from a year earlier.

With a score of 0.693, Viet Nam ranked 11th in the Asia-Pacific region, which was topped by Singapore, Malaysia and Australia.

The Southeast Asian country’s outstanding performance has exceeded the initial target of climbing to the 70th position./.
