Speaking at the event, PM Nguyen Tan Dung highly valued outstanding achievements gained by the Central Highlands as well as the Steering Committee over the past decade.

The region’s economy has shifted in a positive manner with the annual growth rate of 12 % and rising personal income. The spiritual and material conditions of ethnic minorities are substantially improving.

Besides, the region is successfully in maintaining the solidarity and socio-political stability and preventing hostile forces’ plots to sabotage the region.

The Government chief, however, noted that the Central Highlands is still a poor region with limited socio-economic infrastructure and high poverty rate among ethnic minorities.

To boost the development here, PM Dung asked the Steering Committee to promote its role and fruitfully implement the Party and State’s guidelines and policies designed for the region, focusing on poverty reduction.

He also requested the regional provinces to focus on improving the cultural life and knowledge for  local residents while ensuring social welfare and reducing poverty, particularly in rural areas.

On the same day, PM Dung and Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang-Head of the Central Highlands Steering Committee offered incense to martyrs at the Da Lak province cemetery on the occasion of the Vietnam War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).
