Ceremony marks 70th anniversary of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers’ day in Laos

VGP – A grand ceremony was held in Vientiane capital to mark the 70th anniversary of the traditional day of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and specialists in Laos (October 30).

The commemorative event was attended by Vice President Phankham Viphavan, other senior officials from Laos and Viet Nam, and former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and specialists.

Addressing the event, Gen. Chansamone Chanyalath, Minister of Defense expressed on behalf of the Government, army and people of the Lao PDR heartfelt gratitude to the Party, Government, army and people of Viet Nam as well as former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and specialists for their priceless contributions to the revolutionary cause and seizing final victories in Laos and Viet Nam.

He extended special thanks to the great service of former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and specialists who made significant contribution to the revolutionary causes of the two countries.

The Lao defense minister also expressed heartfelt compliments to the families of Vietnamese soldiers who lost their life in Laos.

Meanwhile, General Ngo Xuan Lich, Vietnamese Minister of National Defense stressed on the significane of the commemoration as it once again reflects the special solidarity and faithful relationship between the Parties, State, peoples and armies of the two countries.

Lich said both countries should continue expanding security-defense cooperation with a focus on effective implementation of protocols and plans on defense-security cooperation in order to maintain peaceful and stable environment for national development in respective countries.

Both sides should continue close collaboration in protecting the share borderline while enhancing contacts and information sharing to increase mutual understanding and trust, Lich said.

He suggested the two armies should step up comprehensive cooperation and mutual assistance in training, paralyzing all plots aimed at disuniting the fine friendship between the two countries, and returning remains of Vietnamese soldiers and specialists who fell down during the wartime in the neighboring country, among others.
