Clean water supplies for AO victims in Huế

VGP - A network of piping to supply fresh water has recently been completed with funding provided by the Việt Nam-US Dialogue Group on Agent Orange.

March 17, 2012 5:06 PM GMT+7

It was inaugurated on Mar. 16 in A Lưới District in the central province of Thừa Thiên-Huế.

This is the first time the group has sponsored a project in Việt Nam to supply clean water.

The project in Đông Sơn commune got underway on October 12 last year, at a total cost of VND 1.5 billion. It will ensure fresh water supplies for the ethnic minority people who live in the area, which is near A So Airport.

A So airport was built by the U.S. during the 1960s, which is now one of the most badly Agent Orange contaminated areas in Việt Nam.

In recent years, the Group has funded a host of projects to support local people living in the immediate area.

First established in 2007 as an initiative of prominent citizens, scientists and policy makers of both sides, the Group has strived to raise awareness of the issue in the US and has tirelessly encouraged the international community to help solve the problem.
