Covid-19 update: All localities postpone school reopening by end of February

VGP – As of 6:00 pm on February 15, authorities of all 63 provinces and cities in Viet Nam decided to further postpone school reopening until the end ofFebruary amid complex developments of novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic.

February 15, 2020 8:14 PM GMT+7

The above decision was made after Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha on Friday suggested Chairmen of provincial and municipal People’s Committees would consider delaying reopening of schools till the end of February.

Nha announced the suggestion in accordance with Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam's instruction that schools must be safe before reopening as health and security of the people were the most important.

The Minister also asked universities and colleges to continue staying shut to the end of February.

Viet Nam declared the Covid outbreak an epidemic on February 1 and has deployed drastic measures to contain the spread of the virus.

Viet Nam has so far confirmed 16 cases of the viral infection, including 11 from Vinh Phuc province and seven of the total have been cured and left hospitals.

As of 8:00 pm on Saturday, over 67,000 people across the world contracted the virus and the death toll rose to 1,527, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Health./.
