Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh made that statement on July 16 during his reception for out-going German Ambassador to Viet Nam Christian Berger in Ha Noi.

At the meeting, Deputy PM Minh spoke highly of efforts of the Ambassador in enhancing the two nations’ politic and economic ties as well as his active activities with Viet Nam’s ministries, agencies and localities over the recent time.

He expressed his delight on the positive developments in the two countries’ relationship, particularly their consensus on enhancing and expanding the strategic partnership in all fields in the time ahead, agreeing to establish specific action plans to deepen the relations and make preparations for activities on celebrating the 45th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties by 2020.

Germany continues to become the leading partner of Viet Nam in the EU with the two-way trade value worth more than US$10 billion in 2018, an increase of US$1 billion against the previous year, said Minh, asserting that the Vietnamese Government always creates most favorable conditions for German enterprises to launch operation in Viet Nam.

The Vietnamese Deputy PM expressed thanks to Germany for active support for the early signing of the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EFVTA) and the EU-Viet Nam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), expecting Germany to urge the EU to soon ratify these two agreements.

He hoped that the two nations will continue close coordination at international forums and organizations, especially within the framework of the United Nations during Germany's EU presidency and Viet Nam's ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020.

Germany attaches importance and continues promoting the strategic partnership with Viet Nam, affirmed Ambassador Christian Berger, adding that Germany advocates the EU to soon approve the EVFTA and EVIPA.

He expected that the two nations’ business communities will take advantages of benefits brought by these two agreements to boost mutual trade and investment.

The diplomat confirmed to make contributions to accelerating the relationship between the two countries in the upcoming time.
