As part of the North-South Highway, the 139.52 km Da Nang – Quang Ngai section is a national key project which has a total investment of US$1.472 billion sourced from the World Bank and the Japanese Government’s ODA and the Vietnamese Government’s corresponding fund.

The highway construction work, which is planned to be complete by 2017, also includes 102 bridges of various sizes, and a 540 metre tunnel.

Addressing the launching ceremony, Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that the highway is significant in developing infrastructure in the central region and the country as a whole.

It will shorten the distance and travel time among economic centers, industrial zones and localities of Da Nang, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai, contributing to creating investment opportunities for the central region, boosting socio-economic development, national defence and security, as well as improving people’s living standard.

It will also help connect international transport in the Viet Nam-Laos-Cambodia economic triangle through the East-West Economic Corridor, said Deputy PM Phuc.

He also expressed thanks to the Japanese Government and the WB for their ODA provision and hoped that Viet Nam will continue to receive further support from international organizations in the future.

Deputy PM Phuc asked the Ministry of Transportation, the Viet Nam Expressway Development and Investment Corp, the prime contractor and other contractors strive to complete the project safely, effectively and on schedule.
