Đà Nẵng inks a pact on natural disaster control
VGP – The People’s Committee of the central city of Đà Nẵng, Institute for Social and Environmental Transition (ISET), and the Challenge to Change (CtC) signed the project on coping with natural calamities in Đà Nẵng at a conference held yesterday in the city.

According to CtC representative in Việt Nam, the project aims at piloting, assessing and taking specific actions to foster climate change resilience in urban areas; establishing the database of experience, failures and successes in coping with climate change; assisting the city outline a process of nurturing climate change resilience; and increasing the city’s capacity in this field.
The project on coping with natural calamities in Đà Nẵng is a component of the “Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network” (ACCCRN) financed with US $50 million by the US Rockefeller Foundation. The ACCCRN is carried out for five years to help some cities in Việt Nam, India, Thailand, and Indonesia cope with natural disasters in the coming decades.
In Việt Nam, ACCCRN is conducted in Đà Nẵng, Quy Nhơn and Cần Thơ.
The conference “Đà Nẵng and Climate Change”, organized on Friday, focused on impacts caused by climate change in Central Việt Nam; natural calamities in Đà Nẵng; urban development in risky areas; the community’s vulnerability; and experience of confronting natural disasters.
Dr. Stephen Tyler, senior expert from ISET, the conference was a forum for scientists and local leaders to exchange opinions and scientific knowledge in predicting climate change in Central Việt Nam in the future.
