Deputy PM, FM Minh attends ASEAN-RoK Ministerial Meeting

VGP – Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh attended the ASEAN-Republic of Korea Ministerial Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand on August 1.

Foreign Ministers from ASEAN member States and the Republic of Korea and ASEAN General Secretary General to the ASEAN-Republic of Korea Ministerial Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand on August 1.

The meeting was co-chaired by Brunei’s FM Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof and Korean counterpart Kang Kyung-wha.

At the meeting, the Foreign Ministers acknowledged the Republic of Korea’s New Southern Policy to advance relations with ASEAN and the President of the Republic of Korea’s visit to seven ASEAN Member States, as well as his plan to visit all ASEAN Member States.

The ministers discussed regional issues, such as the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific and the situation in the Korean Peninsula.

They also discussed cooperation in various areas, such as transnational crime, digital economy, connectivity, the conclusion of an air services agreement, and tourism, as well as preparations for the 3rd ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit, which will be held this November 2019 in Busan.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh highly valued RoK’s contributions to the Mekong Sub-region.

He suggested ASEAN and the RoK should beef up technical training and technological transfer in green growth and foster education cooperation and assistance for development of information and communication technology (ICT) in rural areas.

The Foreign Ministers agreed that the next ASEAN-RoK Ministerial Meeting will be held in Viet Nam next year./.
