Deputy PM Minh pays tribute to late U.S. Senator John McCain

VGP – On behalf of the Vietnamese Party and State, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh arrived at the U.S. Embassy in Ha Noi on August 27 to extend his condolences over the passing of US Senator John McCain.

The deputy PM expressed his deepest condolences and sympathy to the U.S. government and Congress, as well as to the family of late Senator John McCain.

In the funeral book, Deputy PM Minh wrote: “As for the Vietnamese Government and people, Senator John McCain has always been a symbol of the generations of parliamentarians and Viet Nam War veterans, and is a pioneer with significant contributions to healing the wounds left by the war, and normalizing and accelerating the Viet Nam-U.S. comprehensive partnership.”

“We always treasure the efforts made by Senator John McCain in the construction and development of the Viet Nam-U.S. relations over the past decades,” he said.

May the senator rest in peace, Deputy PM Minh wrote, expecting McCain’s family to soon overcome such a great loss.

Senator John McCain passed away at 4.28pm on August 25, 2018.
