Bến Tre Village was established, under an initiative of Ms. Melba Hernandez Rodriguez, in Bauta District, Artemisa Province, nearly 30km from the Cuban capital of Havana, on December 20, 1969, a time when the Vietnamese people fought fiercely against the US aggressors.

The village is the symbol of Việt Nam-Cuba solidarity and a model of new-style rural area in Cuba. It currently is home to 200 households with over 1,000 people, and preserves many Vietnamese items. Bến Tre Village is twinned with Moncada Village in the Vietnamese province of Bến Tre.

Deputy PM Trương Vĩnh Trọng, born in Bến Tre Province, expressed his joy of visiting Bến Tre Village. He also visited Pedro Kuri Tropical Clinical Institute in Havana, which specializes in research and treatment. It has some 140 beds and anti-HIV/AIDS services.
