Deputy PM pays visit to Japan
VNGOP – Deputy PM, Foreign Minister Phạm Gia Khiêm and Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso signed on May 23 a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of the Vietnam-Japan Cooperation Committee. The two Foreign Ministers also presided over the first meeting of the Committee.
The establishment of the Vietnam-Japan Cooperation Committee was initiated by Vietnamese PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng in his visit to Japan in October last year. The Committee will discuss orientations and policies as well as decide overall guidelines for the cooperation of mutual benefit between the two countries.
The Committee convened the first meeting right after the signing ceremony, in which the two sides focused on solutions to realize the agreements made by seniors leaders of the two countries. The two sides also agreed to found a joint committee to prepare the 35th anniversary of diplomatic establishment between Vietnam and Japan (1973-2008).
On the same day, Deputy PM Phạm Gia Khiêm had meetings and working sessions with the General Secretary of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party cum the Chairman of the Parliamentarians' Union for Japan-Vietnam Friendship, the group of parliamentarians headed by former Foreign Minister Machibura, the Governor of the Japan International Cooperation Bank, and representatives of some Japanese economic giants. The Deputy PM asked Japanese partners to continue their investments in Vietnam and further support Vietnam in implementing major projects.
