China has been the largest importer and the second largest export market of Viet Nam. The country invested in more than 2,800 projects in Viet Nam, ranking seventh among nations and territories investing in Viet Nam. However, Dung said that these achievements have not met the expectations and potentials of both sides.

The Vietnamese Deputy PM proposed the two sides continue launching senior agreements and perceptions, high-ranking exchanges and meetings and enhance practical cooperation in all spheres, especially in economics, trade and investment.

Dung affirmed that Viet Nam-China trade ties must be developed in a strong, balanced and sustainable manner, adding that the two sides should handle shortcomings of some Chinese-invested projects with a view of not affecting the prestige and image of Chinese investors as well as carry out new projects that symbolize the development and technology of China, thus promoting Viet Nam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership more intensively.

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year Festival, the Deputy PM wished the Ambassador and staff working in the Chinese Embassy a new year of health, happiness and success.

For his part, the Chinese Ambassador extended congratulations to the Vietnamese Party and State leaders on the Tet Festival and the 70th anniversary of Viet Nam-China diplomatic ties.

He expressed thanks to the fruitful development in Viet Nam –China relations in all sectors, especially economics, trade and investment, which are regarded as crucial pillars in the bilateral trade value. The two-way trade value hit US$116.8 billion in 2019, up 9.5%, of which one third is Viet Nam’s agricultural products exported to China.

Consenting with the goal of developing the trade value in a strong, balanced and sustainable manner proposed by Deputy PM Dung, the Ambassador said that China continues expanding imports from Viet Nam, particularly farm products, adding that other cooperative areas such as transport and infrastructure development have gained crucial outcomes.

Regarding Cat Linh-Ha Dong railway project, Xiong Bo said that Chinese senior leaders asked the Chinese contractors to soon visit Viet Nam to discuss with Viet Nam’s functional agencies to deal with obstacles to soon operate the project.

He added that the two sides are actively preparing activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties, hoping that the two nations’ comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership will be consolidated in the upcoming time.
