Dung Quất Oil Refinery to offer first products in Feb. next year

VNGOP - "All task forces should make greatest efforts for the common goal: To offer first products on schedule in February 2009," Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải, Head of the State Steering Board for major petroleum projects, stressed in his inspection tour to the Dung Quất Oil Refinery in the central province of Quảng Ngãi yesterday morning, January 8.

The Dung Quất Oil Refinery is considered an important lever for Central Việt Nam’s economic development. It plays an essential role in ensuring the country’s energy security.

According to Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải, there is a delay in the project’s construction and installation. He asked to immediately recover the schedule in all phases, from designing, equipment purchase, selecting subcontractors to managing the construciton site.

To be able to give first products in February next year, Deputy PM Hải ordered the contractor of the bidding packages EPC 1 4 and 2 3 to complete the equipment installation in February this year and install pipes in May. The contractor of EPC 7 was required to finish and hand over all the buildings within March 2008 and transfer maintenance facilities in 2008.

The Deputy PM also urged the Project Management Unit to train qualified employees who can fruitfully operate the factory.

· Investor: Việt Nam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam)

· Total investment: US $2.7 billion

· Major contractor: Technip (France)

· Capacity: 6.5 million tons of oil per year

· Estimated date of inauguration: 2009

· Products: Propylene, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), lead-free petrol, fuel for jet engines, kerosene, engine diesel, industrial diesel, FO. These products are used to meet domestic demands at wholesale prices. Surplus products will be exported.
