Dutch Gov’t donates € 2 million for central Viet Nam flood victims

VGP – The Dutch Government has decided to provide an aid package worth €2 million (US$2.34 million) for flood victims in central region, according to Dutch Ambassador to Viet Nam Elsbeth Akkerman.

November 05, 2020 1:01 PM GMT+7

The package will be channeled to the Dutch Relief Alliance which covers 15 non-governmental organizations with two components.

Specifically, the first aid will focus on urgent relief including clean water, hygiene, food, necessities and cash. The second one will take to re-start sustainable and flexible livelihoods.

On this occasion, Ambassador Akkerman extended her sympathies to the Vietnamese Government and people over the human and property losses caused by the natural disasters.

The Dutch Government and people will stand side by side with Viet Nam during difficult times, and continue to work with the Southeast Asian nation in climate change response and water management.

An estimated 1.5 million people have been affected by torrential rains, widespread flooding, and landslides triggered by five consecutive storms that have hit central Viet Nam in the past month. As of October 28, more than 200 people had been killed or were reported missing, almost 390,000 houses had been flooded, and more than 300,000 families had been evacuated, according to the Viet Nam Disaster Management Authority (VNDMA).

Earlier, the United Nations Resident Coordinator and the Country Director of Save the Children on behalf of the Disaster Management Group issued the 2020 Viet Nam flood response plan to raise US$ 40 million to provide assistance for 177,000 of the most vulnerable flood-affected people hard hit in the central region. The plan covers six months to address immediate humanitarian needs and carry out several early recovery activities.

People nationwide are offering more material and spiritual support for compatriots in the central region./.
