Earth Hour 2012, the globe’s biggest annual environmental event, will take place on March 31 from 8:30p.m. to 9:30p.m. Organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), this global event is ussually held on the last Saturday of March annually.
During the event, households and businesses are encouraged to switch off non-essential lights for one hour as part of actions they should take to deal with climate change.
The campaign is designed to be suitable for enterprises, organizations, educational establishments and residential groups, and encourage them to make commitments to recycling printed papers, using electricity-saving bulbs, growing plants…, said Global Earth Hour’s executive director Andy Ridley.
In Việt Nam, six cities and provinces took part in the campaign in 2009, and up to 30 localities got involved in the action in 2011.
This year, the 4th year Earth Hour in the country, WWF-Việt Nam will focus on providing technical assistance, instead of holding events. The Ministry of Industry and Trade will host Earth Hour 2012 in Việt Nam
