Having a population of nearly 90 million and a strategic position in East Asia and being a member of the World Trade Organization and many international and regional trade mechanisms, Viet Nam attaches importance to developing diplomatic, economic, trade and investment relations with other ASEM members, the Vietnamese PM stated. “Viet Nam treasures cooperation on labor, employment and social security.”

PM Nguyen Tan Dung said, at this conference, Viet Nam will always listen to and be ready to share her experience of policy making and practical lessons.

Over the past years, the Vietnamese Government has paid due attention to composing and implementing a number of policies on employment, vocational training, human resource development, and social security. These policies have been continuously supplemented in order to cover more and more beneficiaries.

Therefore, the Vietnamese people’s living standards have been significantly improved, social equality, consensus and stability secured.

The chief of the Vietnamese Government highly applauded ASEM’s initiatives in promoting cooperation in human resource development, upgrading skills and generating jobs for laboruers.

He stressed that, in the coming time, it is necessary to boost cooperation in policy making, completing laws on labor and social security, and fostering stronger ability of coping with changes and challenges.

ASEM members should attach the ensuring of social security and creating jobs to renewing growth models towards sustainable development and to the realization of millennium development goals.

The 4th LEMC, themed “Social Protection and Employment - a Key to Sustainable and Inclusive Growth,” attracts some 200 delegates of 39 members of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), including 12 ministers and 11 deputy ministers.

The two-day conference will adopt the Ha Noi Declaration named after its theme.
