Party, State and Government leaders welcomes the 1000th birthday anniversary of Thăng Long-Hà Nội, Ba Đình Square, October 10, 2010

At 8.00 AM, State President Nguyễn Minh Triết delivered a speech praising the proud history of the Vietnamese nation and the 1000-year-old capital city of Hà Nội.

A millennium ago, in 1010, King Lý Thái Tổ transferred the imperial capital from Hoa Lư to Thăng Long (nowadays Hà Nội), opening a new stage for the development of Việt Nam. Experiencing ups and downs, Thăng Long-Hà Nội is always the country’s heart and the place of convergence of national traditions and values.

At the historical moment, said the State President, all Vietnamese people pledge to link hands in building up the socialist country of peace, independence, democracy and the Hà Nội capital city of modernity, civilization and prosperity.

The President’s opening speech was followed by the parade of 17 military phalanxes, 19 civil ones and ten helicopters carrying national and Party flags and banners.

The followings are some photos on the grand anniversary:
