As of early October 2010, the national export turnover of fruits and vegetables reached by US $335 million, making a 25.6% year-on-year increase.

According to Vinafruit, the commodity’s turnover this year is expected higher than the initial forecast of US $350 million.

The surge in revenue has stemmed from new big contracts, better quality of fruits and the applications of international standards to exports.

China is the biggest importer of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables, followed by Japan, Netherlands, Russia and the US.

So far, Việt Nam has 964 agricultural specialties belonging to 733 geographic names. The National Center for Intellectual Property of Việt Nam has licensed certificates to protect 19 geographic names, seven brand names and 20 collective trademarks./.
