FM Minh attends ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat

VGP – Foreign Minister Phạm Bình Minh led a Vietnamese delegation to attend the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat which took place in Cambodia from January 10-11.

Under the theme “ASEAN: One Community, One Destiny”, ASEAN Foreign Ministers stressed the need to accelerate efforts of building the ASEAN Community, enhance connectivity and narrow development gaps, and deepen ASEAN’s external relations.

They agreed on continued promotion of the achievements gained by the bloc over the past two years and affirmed their strong determination of the building of ASEAN Community.

ASEAN Foreign Ministers gave prominence to consolidating coordination among ASEAN member states, particularly in the context of quick and complicated changes at regional and international levels.

ASEAN needs to continue enhancing dialogues and confidence building, and effectively promoting the current tools and mechanisms lie TAC, SEANWFZ, DOC, ARF, ADMM+ for peace, security, stability and cooperation in the region.

In addition, they stressed the need to maintain ASEAN’s centrality in the regional architecture within the region.
