Farm export fetches over US $10 billion in five months

VGP - Export of agricultural, forest and seafood products in the first five months of this year is estimated at nearly US$10.9 billion, up 10.1% against the previous year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The agricultural product export increased 2% to roughly US $6.1 billion, seafood up 9.8% to US $2.3 billion, and forest product up 19.6% to nearly US$1.9 billion.

 From January to May, Vietnam exported some 3 million tons of rice worth US $1.4 billion, year-on-year decline of 9.5% in terms of quantity.

The volume of rice exported to China was 4.4 times higher than the same period last year, making China to become Vietnam’s biggest rice importer.

Vietnam shipped abroad 317,000 tons of rubber totaling US $952 million in the five-month period, up 35.2% in volume but down 7.2% in value.

Meanwhile, the country exported 860,000 tons of coffee worth nearly US $1.8 billion, surging 7.8% in quantity.
