First three volunteers get second COVID-19 vaccine shots

VGP – The first three volunteers got the second shots of 25mcg dose of homegrown Nanocovax vaccine at the Viet Nam Military Medical University in Ha Noi on Thursday morning.

January 14, 2021 2:23 PM GMT+7

These volunteers, comprising two men and one woman in their 20s, received the first shots on December 17, 2020.

They were selected to the first group of 20 volunteers. The rest of the group will receive the second shots on January 17 (next Monday).

Volunteers are divided into three groups to receive three different doses of 25 mcg, 50 mcg, and 75 mcg of the vaccine as part of the first stage of human trials.

All members of the second group of 20 volunteers were injected with the first shots (50mcg).

On January 12, first three volunteers of the third group of 20 volunteers got their first shots of 75mcg dose.

The phase one clinical trials of Nanocovax is expected to finish next month. The Ministry of Health will collect feedbacks and decide if the next phase would be allowed.

Viet Nam is among 40 countries that have conducted human trials of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Nanocovax is one of the four vaccines under development in Viet Nam.

Other three vaccines are being developed by the Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals (IVAC), Vaccine and Biological Production Company No. 1 (Vabiotech), and the Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Biologicals (Polyvac).

The vaccines developed by IVAC and Vabiotech are expected to enter human trials in early 2021.

The country has plans to import COVID-19 vaccines.
