Foreign arrivals up 13%

VGP – As many as 1.6 million foreign visitors travelled to Viet Nam in October, raising the total number of foreign arrivals to 14.5 million ones over the recent 10 months of 2019, up 13% against the same period last year, official statistics show.

Of the total figures, 56% came from China and the Republic of Korea (RoK), the General Statistics Office reported on October 29.

Foreign visitors to Viet Nam in October were estimated at over 1.6 million, up 3.7% over the previous month, of which arrivals by air increased by 1.8%, by road up by 11.3% and by sea increased by 32.9%.

International arrivals to Viet Nam in October saw a year-on-year increase of 34%, of which arrivals from Asia made up 41.2%, from Europe 7.3%, from the Americas 10.2%, from Oceania 1.5% and from Africa 19.4%.

The numbers of foreigners travelling to Viet Nam by air, road and sea see respective year-on-year increases of 11.1%, 19.1% and 6.6% in January-October period.   

In the first ten months of 2019, international visitors to Viet Nam were estimated to reach nearly 14.5 million, of which arrivals by air reached more than 11.5 million, accounting for 79.4% of international visitors to Viet Nam, an increase of more than 11%; by road the number reached more than 2.7 million, up 22.3%; and by sea reached more than 213,000, up 6.6%.

Foreign travelers from Southeast Asia saw remarkable high growth, with the most impressive growth from Thailand at 47.7% over the recent 10 months of the year and up 60.3% in October alone. It was followed by Indonesia 20.3%, the Philippines 19.5% and Malaysia 3.6%.

Foreign arrivals from Asia, Europe and America see respective increases of 15.2%, 5.5% and 7.1% in the reviewed period.

More than 11.5 million visitors from Asia travelled to Viet Nam in the reviewed period, making up 79.5% of the total international travelers and edging up 15.2% year-on-year while the numbers of European and American visitors to Viet Nam witnessed respective year-on-year increases of 5.5% and 7.1%.
