The region was set to become a dynamic, fast and sustainable area and serve as a crucial bridge in international cooperation.

For that, solutions have been up, relating to infrastructure at major economic zones, environmental protection, education and human resources training and a transparent financial market.

Over the past 10 years, nine regional provinces and cities have received more than US$2.5 billion in investment from development partners. Currently, programs and projects, worth around US$1.83 billion are underway.

Speaking at the forum, Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc suggested discussion contents such as potentials and advantages of the region and each locality and difficulties in their socio-economic development.

Delegates explored the consequences of climate change and natural calamity facing the region, especially water resources, and identified priorities and breakthroughs for the region.

The Deputy PM said since China illegally placed its drilling rig in Viet Nam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, Chinese vessels have constantly threatened Vietnamese fishermen and even sunken their fishing boats that were operating in Viet Nam's Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago.

Viet Nam is determined to protect her sovereignty with peaceful measures based on international law and calls for the international community's support, he said./.
