Fruit, veggie exports up 44.1%

VGP - Việt Nam has so far this year earned US $213 million from fruits and vegetables, up 44.1% year on year, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

In the period, the country’s major fruit and vegetable importers remained China, Russia, Thailand and Japan, which accounted for over 60% of the total export earnings.

In late April, New Zealand experts came to Việt Nam to check preparations for their country’s import of Vietnamese fresh mangos, scheduled to begin in 2012.

The ministry’s Import-Export Department estimated that export earnings from fruits and vegetables would hit US $500-510 million this year.

This estimation was based on smooth exports to the US and Japan over the last time, and increasing demands from the Japanese, Chinese and Indonesian markets.

At present, export price for Vietnamese rambutan to France is US $6.1 per kilogram, up US $0.1 against the same period last year. The respective figures for dried coconut pulp are US$2,500 – 2,800 per ton, up US $100-180.
