Germany, Australia back VN’s combat against climate change

VGP – Representatives of the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) on Monday in Hà Nội inked a joint statement to support Việt Nam tackle climate change.

Minister of Planning and Investment Võ Hồng Phúc on March 8 in Hà Nội separately received German BMZ Minister Dirk Niebel who is leading a delegation to visit Việt Nam and Mr. Richard Moore, Deputy-Director General of AusAID Asia Division.

During the reception, Mr. Dirk Niebel revealed that the German Government had signed of the committed disbursement of €12 million for Việt Nam’s vocational training and climate change adaptation. Germany pledged to pour additional €7 million into these fields.  

The joint statement on Việt Nam country cooperation, inked by the BMZ Minister and the AusAID Deputy-Director General after the receptions, centers cooperation in environment and climate change through managing coastal areas; preserving biodiversity; and consuming renewable energy. 

Specifically, the Governments of Germany and Australia pledged to continue their joint projects in the Mekong Delta province of Kiên Giang which is badly affected by climate change. 

Addressing the signing ceremony, Mr. Phúc was convinced that the close ties between the donors would facilitate the fight against climate change in Việt Nam.
