Gov’t announces 17 sustainable development goals by 2030

VGP – The Government has announced 17 sustainable development goals in its recently-issued Resolution No. 136/NQ-CP on sustainable development through 2030.

The Resolution envisages the overall goal of sustaining economic growth in parallel with ensuring social progress and justice and environmental and ecological protection, effective management and utilization of natural resources and proactive response to climate change.

It aims to ensure that all citizens promote their full potential, participate in the development process, and equally benefit from the results of development; build the Vietnamese society that is peaceful, prosperous, inclusive, just, democratic, civilized and sustainable.

The Resolution also outlines Viet Nam’s 17 sustainable development goals

Goal 1: Ending poverty in all its forms everywhere;

Goal 2: Eradicating hunger, ensuring food security, improving nutrition, and promoting sustainable development of agricultural production;

Goal 3: Ensuring good health and enhancing welfare for everyone;

Goal 4: Ensuring inclusive, equitable quality education, promoting lifelong learning opportunities for everyone;

Goal 5: Achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls;

Goal 6: Safeguarding sufficient water and latrine systems, sustainable management of water resources;

Goal 7: Ensuring access to sustainable, reliable and affordable energy for everyone;

Goal 8: Ensuring sustainable, comprehensive, and constant economic growth, and decent work for everyone;

Goal 9: Building highly resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and innovation;

Goal 10: Narrowing social inequality;

Goal 11: Advancing sustainable and resilient development of urban and rural areas, ensuring safe living and working environment, rational distribution of population and labor among regions;

Goal 12: Guaranteeing sustainable production and consumption;

Goal 13: Promptly and effectively adapting to climate change and natural disasters;

Goal 14: Sustainably preserving and utilizing ocean, sea and marine resources for sustainable development;

Goal 15: Ensuring sustainable protection and development of forests, preserving biodiversity;

Goal 16: Promoting a peaceful, democratic, just, equal, and civilized society, and access to justice for all, building effective, accountable and participatory institutions at all levels;

Goal 17: Strengthening global partnership for sustainable development.

The Resolution figures out tasks and solutions to realize the aforesaid goals, with a focus on perfecting the legal system and policies, mobilizing financial resources and fostering international cooperation./.
