The move is part of the Government's effort to lessen impacts of climate change in Viet Nam.

The nation is one of the world's most vulnerable countries to climate change. It suffered more than 220 extreme events in 1999-2018 with losses of more than US$2 billion per year, according to Global Climate Risk Index, published by German environmental think tank Germanwatch.

In recent months, flooding and landslides had caused many deaths and losses. While experts were blaming these natural disasters on climate change, heavy rains or the construction of small hydropower plants, it was first and foremost necessary for us to protect the forests and plant more trees, said the Government chief./.
