Phuc said information dissemination and education are not enough, thus inferior levels must apply strict administrative or criminal punishment on any violations in this domain.

Unsafe food has no longer been a pressing issue like years ago but ensuring food safety remains challenging due to small-scale production by more than eight million households and use of low-quality pesticides without clear origins, according to the PM.

Guaranteeing food safety must be intensified and this is the responsibility of the while society, the Government and local authorities, and functional agencies in order to create substantial changes in 2020, he emphasized.

Phuc tasked inferior levels to continue improving legal framework on food safety, including the development of systems of norms and standards that are in accordance with international practices.

At the same time, functional agencies need to pay greater attention to planning of production zones and multiplying safe food production and business chain models while finalizing a draft project on development of organic farm produce for approval./.
