The Summit is expected to open up a series of cooperation opportunities between Japan and the Mekong Sub-region, and surely consolidate peace, stability and development in Asia.

Japanese PM Yukio Hatoyama invited PM Dũng to attend the Summit which will focus on water protection and infrastructure development in the sub-region.

Leaders from Japan and the Mekong Sub-region countries, namely Việt Nam, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar, planned to adopt a Joint Statement at the Summit in the spirit of friendship, mutual understanding and interests of all relevant parties.

PM Dũng suggested the parties draft specific cooperative programs to revitalize and expand cooperation.

The Vietnamese PM and Mr. Mitsuo Sakaba also exchanged ways to speed up the implementation of some big Japan-funded projects in Việt Nam.
