Gov’t chief wants to get sharp and frank comments from VFF

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the point at the VFF’s Ninth Congress. 

The ninth Congress of the VFF (2019-2024 tenure) opened in Ha Noi on September 19 under the theme “Solidarity-Democracy- Innovation-Development,” with a participation of nearly 1,400 delegates and visitors. 

The Congressed drew the attendance of PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong sent a congratulatory flower basket. 

On behalf of the Politburo, PM Phuc stressed that over the past 90 years of formulation and development, the VFF has unceasingly been consolidated and developed. The body rallied and united people of all classes to become a revolutionary force which helped Vietnamese people to rise from slavery to become the owners of the country; opened up the era of national independence, unity, and territorial integrity.

The Government chief praised the important contribution of the VFF, socio-political organizations, and mass organizations for national development especially after 30 years of reform. 

The VFF served as the political union and voluntary union for people, representing, and protecting the legitimate rights and benefits of people. The body also played as a core organization of the political system in Viet Nam. 

However, the PM pointed out VFF’s weaknesses including its methods of operation to steer and rally the great unity for the whole people which has yet caught up with the fast developments of the social lives. Patriotic emulation campaigns and movements were inefficient. The VFF’s functions relating to presentation, protection of legitimate rights of people, supervision, and collection of social feedback were limited.  

Center of solidarity

PM Phuc took the occasion to call on the VFF to build and consolidate the great unity bloc of the nation; strengthen the alliance bloc between workers-peasants- intellectuals, which serves as the foundation of the national unity bloc. The VFF was assigned to uphold the role of individuals from different sectors, peoples, religions and overseas Vietnamese in foreign countries and territories. 

The VFF was urged to properly organize campaigns such as “All people unite to build new-style rural and civilized urban areas,” “Vietnamese prefer Vietnamese products” in a practical and efficient manner. 

The VFF was asked to collect and present feedback of people to the Party and State; work with the local administration to effectively resolve social pressing issues in order to ensure legitimate rights and benefits of people. 

The VFF should proactively engage more deeply and efficiently and  encourage people to combat and prevent corruption and wastefulness and  exercise thrift-practice./.
