Gov’t chief welcomes newly-appointed foreign ambassadors

VGP – PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng today in Hà Nội separately received new ambassadors from Russia and Panama who paid courtesy visits to him before starting their term of office in Việt Nam.

Receiving Russian Ambassador Kovtun Andrey Grigorievich, the Vietnamese PM emphasized that greater efforts should be made to match bilateral economic ties with the special friendship between Việt Nam and Russia.

According to the Việt Nam Ministry of Industry and Trade, in 2008, the total trade turnover between Việt Nam and Russia was US $1,641 million, up 62.4% against 2007. The figure is estimated to reach US $3 billion by 2010 and US $10 billion by 2020.

Last year, Russia is the 25th investor in Việt Nam, with 59 projects worth of US $376.36 million.

Việt Nam is also conducting 11 projects in Russia in such fields as food processing, textile, footwear and furniture.

PM Dũng noted that the Government of Việt Nam wants to expand cooperation with Russia through all channels and by all means in order to facilitate development in each country.

He pledged to direct Vietnamese competent agencies to closely work with Russian partners in putting cooperation programs into reality.

Mr. Kovtun Andrey Grigorievich expressed his deep sentiments to Việt Nam, vowing to do hist utmost to foster the strategic partnership between the two countries.

In the reception given to Ambassador Antonio Young Virzi from Panama. PM Dũng underlined that Việt Nam wants to cement and deepen ties with Panama, especially promoting cooperation in maritime, agriculture, science and technology.

Mr. Antonio Young Virzi pledged to continue the ongoing projects on maritime and agriculture between the two countries.
