Gov’t gives emergence aid to storm-hit province

VGP – While doing inspection tours to the central provinces which have been seriously ravaged by tropical storm Mirinae, Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải decided to provide rice and money to local residents and help the local authorities recover production and rebuild infrastructure.

Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải on Thursday morning arrived in Bình Định Province to direct the rescue and relief work here.

Bình Định is one of the central provinces hit by Mirinae. By November 5, the province has reported 13 deaths, 3 missing, 15 injured; nearly 4,000 houses collapsed or damaged; 10,000 ha of rice and crops ravaged, nearly 2,000 m of dyke and dams broken, and 18 vessels sunk. The total losses were estimated at VND 887 billion.

Deputy PM Hải visited some low-land communes where he consoled and encouraged local residents to overcome losses and difficulties.

Visiting some local hospitals, the Deputy PM ordered the provincial government to ensure power supplies and medicines for these facilities.

He also asked the local authorities to secure conditions for local enterprises to resume production and business activities.

On behalf of the Government, Mr. Hải decided to grant Bình Định with VND 70 billion and 3,000 tons of rice to deal with the aftermaths of the natural disaster.

Earlier, the PM decided to allocate VND 225 billion from the central spare budget 2009 and 10,000 tons of rice from the national reserve for Mirinae-ravaged localities.

Accordingly, apart from Bình Định, Phú Yên will receive VND 100 billion and 4,000 tons of rice; Khánh Hòa VND 20 billion and 1,000 tons of rice; Ninh Thuận VND 5 billion; Gia Lai VND 30 billion and 2,000 tons of rice.

These amounts of money and rice are used to prevent hunger, purchase crop varieties, and repair infrastructure (schools, clinics, irrigation works, roads) and cover environment hygiene work.
