Gov’t places top priority on COVID-19 containment

VGP – The Government places top priority on containing the COVID-19 pandemic to protect people health and life and to avoid health crisis.

August 17, 2021 4:28 PM GMT+7

In its resolution issued following Cabinet’s recent meeting, the Government reiterates determination to pursue dual goal of COVID-19 containment and economic recovery in a flexible manner in order to ensure macro-economic stability and social security.

As the pandemic is still evolving complicatedly, the Government will step up progress on disbursement of public investment capital, including ODA and concessional loans through simplifying disbursement procedures.

It tasks subordinate levels to focus on reviewing and identifying obstacles faced by businesses and put forward support measures, including tax and land use fee exemption and reduction in the current context.

The central bank is assigned to direct credit organizations to continue rolling out measures, including lending rate cuts and loan restructuring to support pandemic-hit customers.

The Government also asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to accelerate “vaccine diplomacy” which is regarded as a key to realize the country’s vaccine strategy.

The strategy lays emphasis on (i) purchasing vaccines as much and soon as possible, (ii) accelerating research and transfer of production technology, and (iii) getting people freely vaccinated in a bid to achieve herd immunity in early 2022./.
