Gov’t sets key socio-economic development tasks for 2020

VGP – The Government issued Resolution 01/NQ-CP on measures and solutions to implement the socio-economic development plan and State budget forecast for 2020.

2020 is of important significance for the country’s implementation of the five-year plan (2016-2020) and preparation for the 2021-2025 period; and the ten-year strategy (2021-2030), big events such as the 90th founding anniversary of the Party, the 75th founding anniversary of the nation, the 130th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh‘s birthday, the 13th National Party Congress, the elections to the 15th National Assembly and the People’s Councils at all levels.

Six focuses on management

The Government selected the motto “Discipline, integrity, action, responsibility, creation, and effectiveness” for 2020.

The Government also selected six key management tasks including

Firstly, continuing to perfect the socialist-oriented market economy mechanism to unleash resources; create s fair, flexible, and convenient investment and business environment; improve the quality of law-making in combination with the enhancement of law enforcement;

Secondly, stabilizing the macro-economy; controlling inflation; raising productivity, quality, effectiveness, and competitiveness and self-reliance of the economy; accelerating economic restructuring in combination with transformation of the growth modal in a more practical and effective manner; speeding up key national projects; and upholding the roles of key economic regions and urban areas;

Thirdly, developing fast and sustainable economy on a pair with cultural and social development, environmental protection; raising material and  spiritual quality for people; developing, training, and fostering high quality human resources, scientific and technological development, as well as innovation; tightening land management, natural resources, environmental protection, disease prevention, epidemics, and climate change response. 

Fourthly, implementing apparatus arrangement, reducing the number of public servants; continuing with the administrative reform; tightening disciplines; combating corruption and wastefulness;

Fifthly, consolidating national defense, security; raising diplomatic activities and international integration; safeguarding independence, territorial and sovereignty integrity, development stability; and raising the national status at the international arena; effectively implementing FTAs, Viet Nam’s roles as the ASEAN Chair, AIPA 41, and UNSC non-permanent member;

Sixthly, properly conducting information and communication work to generate social consensus. 

Ten groups of tasks and measures

The Resolution also pointed out ten groups of tasks and measures for 2020 including (1) perfecting the legal system; (2) consolidating macro-economic stability; controlling inflation; (3) accelerating the economy in combination with transformation of the growth modal, labor productivity; (4) upholding efficiency of resources; (5) raising resource quality, innovation, development, scientific and technological applications; (6) developing culture, society; (7) strengthening management of natural resources and environment; (8) boosting state management and administrative reform; (9) consolidating national defense, security; (10) speeding up information work./.
