VGP – The Government has decided to provide additional US$500,000 to the Ministry of Health to contribute to the COVAX Facility.

June 23, 2021 8:00 PM GMT+7

COVAX Facility is a mechanism set up by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunization (GAVI), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), and manufacturers and partners to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines, and to guarantee fair and equitable access for every country in the world.

Viet Nam is one of the 190 participating economies in this vaccine-sharing mechanism which has committed to supplying Viet Nam with nearly 30 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine this year.

So far, the Southeast Asian country has received 3.9 million AstraZeneca vaccine doses, including nearly 2.5 million doses shipped via the COVAX Facility.

The Government expected to acquire 150 million vaccine doses to cover 70 percent of the nation’s population./.
