HCMC boosts stronger ties with Laos

VGP - Ho Chi Minh City is willing to support Laos in developing policies on knowledge-based economy, science and technology, software industry and hi-tech agriculture.

June 24, 2013 1:48 PM GMT+7

The statement was made by Le Hoang Quan, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee at a reception for visiting Lao Deputy Prime Minister Somsavad Lengsavath on June 23.

Quan welcomed the Lao delegation’s visit as a positive contribution to strengthening the special time-honored friendship between the two countries following their successful organization of the Viet Nam-Laos Friendship Year.

Ho Chi Minh City will create favorable conditions for the Lao delegation to study its successful hi-tech development models such as hi-tech zones in district 9 and Cu Chi district, and Quang Trung software park, the municipal leader said.

For his part, Lao Deputy PM Lengsavath said the regular exchange of visits and meetings between senior leaders and localities demonstrate the close-knit relationship between the two nations.

The Lao delegation’s visit aims to learn from Viet Nam’s experience in science and technology and quality measurement which is considered an important task of Laos after joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA), Lengsavath noted. -VNA
